It's hard to let go of the past and our past can easily become a prison that prevents us from moving forward.  We just can not seem to move past our regrets and traumas.  It is in our nature to hang onto things including pain and suffering.  Our first impulse or reaction to progress and happiness is a feeling of too good to be true so beware.  It is our resistance to change; even good change.

We will never have a fulfilling and lasting happiness if we stay anchored to an unhappy and cynical past.  It is such a waste of our imagination and consciousness to dwell on things past that we can never change and it zaps us of all energy and motivation to change our futures.

Books, movies, and tv are full of popular stories about folks that had a great hardship but then over came the hardship to become famous or rich.  They did not do this by dwelling on the hardship and the misfortune of their past.  They learned from the past and created a better vision of their future and then made their dreams come true.

You can never forget a lost child or mate.  You can never get back lost property like old pictures.  But you are still alive and need to live and want to be happy; so you must spend more time thinking about where you are going and try to suppress thoughts about where you have been.

Letting go does not mean forgetting, it just means get past the crippling part and begin living for the present and creating a new future.
